The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening secondary education and improving school infrastructure as Somè Senior High School (SOSSEC) marked its 60th anniversary.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, was represented at the Diamond Jubilee celebration on by Technical Advisor, Prof. George Oduro, who delivered a speech on his behalf.
In the anniversary address, the Minister congratulated the chiefs and people of the Somè Traditional Area, the school’s Governing Board, management, staff, students and alumni on six decades of educational contribution to the Ketu South Municipality.
He also disclosed that the Ministry had received a petition from the Somè Traditional Council seeking the school’s upgrade from Category C to B. He indicated that the request would receive serious consideration under the World Bank-supported US$300 million STARR-J Project, which is expected to support the expansion of school facilities and infrastructure.
Beyond infrastructure and access, the Minister stressed the importance of discipline, integrity and character formation in education. He called on teachers and school heads to protect students and report misconduct, particularly sexual indiscipline, warning that the Ministry and the Ghana Education Service would not shield any teacher found culpable.
He further urged the school’s alumni, traditional authorities and parents to sustain their support for the institution, while encouraging students to embrace hard work, respect their teachers and use digital learning tools responsibly.
